MCC founding co-pastors Henry and Amy Schenkel were the tallest man and woman in the choir at Calvin College when they met in 1994. After graduation Henry planned to return to Chicago's south side and the thriving lawn care business he'd started while still in high school. Amy, on the other hand, had wanted to be a pastor since grade school, but didn't know how that could be possible since the denomination she grew up in and wanted to stay in didn't ordain women. Both graduates of Calvin Seminary, they are lively witnesses that in ways startling and mysterious God works to change hearts, minds and institutions!
The power of God's love in their own lives compelled Henry and Amy to start MCC. They want it to be a place where all who come can join them in a relationship with God and relationships with others that are true, run deep and heal life's hurts.
When they aren't in the thick of life at MCC, Henry and Amy and their two children enjoy camping, beaches, water sports, biking and all things outdoors and active. They also invest a lot of time working on their house, a fixer-upper on GR's northeast side.
You can contact Pastor Henry or Pastor Amy by calling the church or via email (below). |
